⛳️ “Fore the Communities” – A Round for Good

This summer of July 2024, brought community members to gather on the greens to participate in the 1st annual “Fore the Communities” golf outing—an event designed not just for friendly competition, but to fund something truly meaningful: backpacks and school supplies for children in our area. Thanks to the incredible turnout and generosity, local families were uplifted in a major way. We hope to have an even more successful event this July 7, 2025.

🎒 Backpack Drive Highlights

According to the volunteer-run spreadsheet:

  • Over 120 backpacks, each stacked with essential school supplies, were distributed across Clarion, Goldfield, Dows, Belmond, and beyond.

  • These reached 142 children ranging from preschool through 12th grade, belonging to 60+ families!

  • Volunteers from the golf committee, community churches, First State Bank, Costco, Iowa Specialty Hospital (who donated boxes of Kleenex!), and many individuals helped collect, sort, fill, and deliver these backpacks.

    • THIS YEAR 2025- 2026 marks our 4th year, helping students and families from Wright County and surrounding areaas

🤝 The Power of Teamwork

This effort was fueled by cooperation across multiple community strengths:

  • 🏌️‍♀️ The golf outing committee and generous hole sponsors—like Ted Peg Bunn, Sumners Insurance, Gold‑Eagle Coop, and others—who helped raise critical funds.

  • ⛪ Partnerships with The Dows United Methodist Church, the American Legion Riders Post 370 from Goldfield, and local drop-off sites ensured supplies flowed smoothly.

  • 🛒 Retail and business support—from Costco’s contributions to enthusiastic online and in-person donors.

Behind the scenes, countless volunteers—including Kathy Deimerly, Jill Harrington, Mary Waters, Jayne Ruzicka, Tracy Wigans, Tammy Range, and so many more—including our awesome Golf Committee, who dedicated their time to packing backpacks, chase down donations, and spreading hope where it was needed most.

🌟 Impact on Students & Families

By distributing backpacks filled with pencils, notebooks, Kleenex, and more: all age- appropriate to grade level wish lists.

  • Children entered the school year with confidence—equipped with what they needed, and the reassurance that their community believed in them.

  • Parents breathed easier knowing finances could go toward other essentials.

  • Volunteers and donors alike saw firsthand the joy and relief these simple tools can bring.

💬 A Volunteer’s Memory

“It makes going back to school all that much better… walking into a new year with confidence!”

That sentiment captures the essence of this mission: through sport, spirit, and service, our community stepped up to uplift its own youngest members—one backpack at a time.

🌱 Continuing the Mission

As we look forward:

  • Save the date for this year’s “Fore the Communities” outing—your participation keeps this momentum alive. Monday July 7th @ Clarmond Country Club with a 5:00 registration and 5:30 Shot-gun start.

  • Spread the word: whether you're a donor, an organizer, or someone who can drop off supplies, every bit helps. WE NEED YOU!

  • Stay connected via Gift of Givings, as there will be more ways to support students throughout the school year—seasonal drives, events, volunteer opportunities, and more.

👏 Thank you to everyone—golfers, sponsors, churches, businesses, volunteers, and families—for coming together. Because of your hearts and efforts, dozens of kids started school with exactly what they needed—and so much love behind them. 💛
